Day Riders:
$2 per horse.  Please park in designated area.  Check-in after 7:00 a.m., check-out by 9:00 p.m.  Please put manure in cart.

Horse Rentals: A private stable nearby will rent a safe and sound horse by the hour or by the day, along with saddle and tack. They may be able to deliver and pick-up from Hayes Canyon Campground.

When packing for your trip, include extra electric cord, water hose, and septic hose.  Due to the many trees on the sites your electric/water supply post or septic stub may be up to 30 feet from your parking pad.  Don't forget a manure fork to clean pens (put in wheeled cart provided and we will empty daily).  Cell phone reception in this area is spotty at best.  In case of emergency, your family can leave a message for you by calling us at the main campground phone number (618)672-4751 and we will notify you of the message left.

Hayes Canyon Campground Policies and Guidelines:

*Quiet hours 10pm-6am. This is strictly enforced. Our campground is known for being quiet and relaxed, this is not a party camp.

*Dogs permitted, owners responsible, please be considerate of your neighbors and control dog waste & noise.

*Do not tie your horse to utilities or trees.  Do NOT allow your horse to chew on or damage any trees!  Even small amounts of damage acumulate and a dead mature tree takes about 30 years to replace.  Trees provide the shade that your children and grandchildren will enjoy.

*We are on city water - please conserve! No washing vehicles/trailers please.

*Please turn your A/C off when you are away from camp (unless you have a pet left inside).

*Put manure in cart, we will empty daily.  Before leaving, thoroughly clean your pens including all hay/shavings (it will act as 'mulch' & keep the ground wet).

* Put trash in dumpsters. Food or trash left out is an invitation for wildlife, which may be harmed by eating plastic, etc.  Also, we would rather not have visitors to our campground such as bees, raccoons, skunks, etc.

* We collect aluminum cans for the local animal shelter, please place in marked barrels near dumpsters.

*Hayes Canyon Campground is not responsible for accidents, injury, lost or stolen property. Common sense is the best prevention to injury!

*U.S. Forest Service requires bridle tag to be in place at all times while riding on the Shawnee.

*Pack out what you pack into the forest. Keep the Shawnee beautiful for generations to come.

*Please preserve the trails by staying on designated trails and by avoiding trail 'braiding' or switch-backs.  Cross-tie between trees when stopping on trail, or use high-lines provided at designated locations.

*Lusk Creek Wilderness, Bay Creek Wilderness, and Garden-of-the-Gods Wilderness trails only [note these areas on your map]. These trails are open seasonally from April 1st to November 30th.  Group size in wilderness areas is limited to 10 persons.  These trails may be temporarily posted as closed after periods of heavy rain.

*Most importantly -- say safe and have fun !!
